Parkinson's Disease

Prevention

Parkinson’s disease  (PD) cannot be prevented, but measures can be taken to relieve symptoms and protect against symptoms that may develop.

  • People with PD should be made fully aware of how their medication works and what the possible effects are.
  • If people with PD have speech problems, they should be encouraged to develop alternative ways to communicate their needs to their caregivers and physicians.
  • People with PD should be encouraged to take regular gentle exercise to improve body strength.
