seizures

back

An attack consisting of sudden, transitory clinical manifestations with abnormal motor behaviour or sensory phenomena with or without loss of consciousness. Seizures are a symptom of epilepsy

SEIZURESEPartial Seizures are the more common type, in which only a local population of neuronal cells is disrupted. The patient does not loose consciousness but may experience other symptoms such as confusion, jerking movements and odd mental events, such as hallucinations.

In a general seizure more diffuse areas of the brain are disrupted, resulting in more severe and longer lasting symptoms, and a patient may loose consciousness for 10 to 30 seconds in extreme cases.
