A brain disorder in which there is a loss of function and death of neurons in the parts of the brain responsible for learning and memory formation. This neuronal death leads to memory loss and dementia. The exact cause of the disease is not known, although the symptoms are thought to be caused in part by a lack of the neurotransmitteracetylcholine. |
