Migraine

Introduction

Migraine migraine is a complex of symptoms comprising attacks of headaches, nausea, vomiting and a hypersensitivity to light and sound. The headache can last as long as 3 days and the pain is often described as a severe throbbing sensation on one or both sides of the head. Before the onset of headache some sufferers also experience so-called ‘aura’ symptoms, the most common being visual disturbances. The exact cause of migraine is not known. However, the disease is relatively well understood and effective treatment is available.
